The BG Service Map

You do not need to be a chemist to sell BG well. You do need to know what each service protects, when to bring it up, and what customer language makes sense.

Lesson Objective

Build a practical advisor map of the most common BG maintenance services: fuel, engine, transmission, cooling, brake, and power steering.

Advisor Map

Service What it protects When to bring it up Customer language
BG Platinum Fuel System Service Fuel injectors, intake valves, combustion chamber, throttle response GDI engines, rough idle, reduced power, fuel economy complaint, 15k/year maintenance conversation "This cleans carbon deposits that can rob performance and economy."
BG Engine Performance Service Oil-side deposits, sludge risk, fuel-side cleanliness, engine protection Contaminated oil, oil consumption, fuel smell on dipstick, reduced fuel economy, 10k maintenance rhythm "This is a deeper engine clean than an oil change alone."
BG Transmission Service Transmission fluid quality, shifting performance, internal wear protection Dark fluid, towing/severe use, 30k interval, transmission or driveline repair visit "Heat breaks down transmission fluid. This exchanges old fluid before shift quality and wear become the issue."
BG Cooling System Service Water pump, radiator, thermostat, head gasket risk, corrosion protection Coolant contaminated/low/old, 30k interval, acidity test, high temperature complaint, cooling repair "Coolant also fights corrosion. When it is worn out, the system starts corroding from the inside."
BG Brake Service Brake fluid quality, pedal feel, hydraulic components, safety Dark fluid, copper strip result, 2-3 years, 30k since last exchange, brake repair visit "Brake fluid absorbs moisture over time. This restores clean fluid to protect pedal feel and components."
BG Power Steering Service Steering pump, valves, seals, fluid cleanliness Pump noise, difficult steering, dark fluid, 30k since last service, steering repair "This removes worn fluid and debris before it grinds on seals and valves."

The Big Pattern

Every BG service conversation follows the same structure:

  1. System: What system are we protecting?
  2. Evidence: What did we see, test, smell, hear, or know from history?
  3. Risk: What does waiting too long usually lead to?
  4. Service: What does the BG service do in plain English?
  5. Choice: Where does it fit in the menu?
Simple Example

"Your brake fluid is dark and the copper strip failed. Brake fluid breaks down with moisture and contamination. Since we are already doing pads, this is the right time to exchange the fluid so the hydraulic system is clean too."

Do Not Oversell the Warranty Angle

Several BG services may be backed by BG protection programs when the vehicle qualifies. That can add value, but it should not be the whole pitch. Eligibility depends on program rules, mileage, timing, service history, and the exact service. Always verify the current local BG program details before promising coverage.

Use This Phrase

"This service may also qualify for BG protection coverage if the vehicle meets the program requirements. I can verify that before we present it as part of the recommendation."

The Dyer Standard

Know the six common BG services well enough to explain the protected system, the inspection trigger, and the customer benefit in one calm sentence.
